Kick Off match: Dolph Ziggler vs Baron Corbin

Kalisto (c) vs Ryback for the United States Championship
Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady vs The Vaudevillians to determine the #1 Contender for the WWE Tag Team Championship
Winner: No Contest
Notes: The New Day come out to kick off WWE’s Payback. They wanted to be ringside during the #1 Contender Tag Team match between Enzo Amore and Big Cass and The Vaudevillians so they made themselves comfortable during the match by eating pizza and popcorn while sipping on soda. During the match, Simon Gotch went to throw him out of the ring when Enzo’s head hit the rope, falling outside of the ring and his head bounced as it went underneath the ring. When medical personnel began checking on Enzo, he wasn’t responding. The referee stopped the match and medical personnel put Enzo on a stretcher and took him out of the venue to receive further medical attention.
Update (8:27pm): Enzo is being taken to a local hospital to be examined. He is moving his extremities and is talking.
Update (9:09pm): Enzo is currently at the hospital being examined. As previously stated, he is moving his extremities, arms, legs and is able to communicate with the staff.
Update (10:23pm): Enzo is still at the hospital being treated and examined for his injury. It was determined he suffered a concussion and all other tests came back as negative.
Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens
Winner: Kevin Owens
Notes: Even after the match had ended, Kevin Owens continued the attack on Sami Zayn. Byron Saxton was beckoned into the ring by Kevin Owens to interview him. He threw Byron into the place he wanted him and had told Byron to ask him about how it felt to beat Sami Zayn. Byron asked about if Kevin felt the feud was finally over instead and Kevin answered his own question. He then said that when it comes to the feud, it shows after fourteen years of asking who is the better competitor between the two that clearly, Kevin is better. Now Kevin is going to refocus and take back his Intercontinental Championship. Byron asked, since Kevin brought it up, if The Miz will retain the title since the match was up next. Kevin stated he didn’t care who won but since it was up next, he decided to do commentary beside Byron Saxton during the match.
The Miz (c) (with Maryse) vs Cesaro for the Intercontinental Championship
Winner: The Miz
Notes: Sami Zayn surprisingly attacks Kevin Owens while on commentary. Their fight entered the ring which stole the attention of the referee, preventing him from seeing The Miz tapping out. Cesaro knocked both Sami and Kevin off of the ring, which The Miz took full advantage of the distraction and rolled Cesaro up to successfully retain his title. Cesaro attacked The Miz shortly after the match and Kevin and Sami ended up fighting in the ring. Kevin then attacked Cesaro and The Miz when they made their way into the ring. At one point, Maryse was able to save her husband from the wrath of Owens. Kevin stood in the ring with the Intercontinental Championship in his hand.
Dean Ambrose vs Chris Jericho
Charlotte (c) (with Ric Flair) vs Natalya (with Bret Hart) for the WWE Womens Championship
Notes: Charlotte locks Natalya in a Sharpshooter and a few seconds later, the ref orders to have the bell rung before he runs out of the ring. Natalya never tapped or told the ref she quit but is announced that Charlotte retains the title. Bret Hart came into the ring and punched Ric Flair in the face then put him in the Sharpshooter while Natalya did the same to Charlotte. Can we say Montreal Screw Job part two?
Which McMahon will have control of Monday Night Raw?
Vince’s choice: Both Stephanie and Shane McMahon
Notes: Vince comes out discussing how Monday Night Raw is the longest reigning sports entertainment show on television. It’s morphed and changed throughout the years, going through different eras which his favorite era being The Attitude Era. Vince discusses what kind of individual should be running Monday Night Raw and how the decision is between his two children, Stephanie or Shane. He welcomes Stephanie out to the ring first and thanks the WWE Universe for their support after Roman Reigns speared her. The WWE Universe boos her so loudly that Vince McMahon starts screaming at the fans. Stephanie says she doesn’t need their compassion and would rather be feared and respected. She discusses all of the success The Authority has had and every decision made was always “best for business”. Stephanie said Shane would abandon us again like he did 7 years ago and would most likely do it again. She turned to her father and reminded him of how Shane abandoned them when times got rough, losing to The Undertaker and blackmailing him in order to get his foot back in the door. Shane interrupts Stephanie by making his way to the ring and the fans instantly goes wild. Shane asks Stephanie what accomplishes The Authority has had publicized recently and show his on the Titantron. Shane discusses his departure since Stephanie brought it up which he said Stephanie knows nothing about. The reason for his departure was because his voice wasn’t being heard and that resulted in irreconcilable differences between himself and his father. That left a void which The Authority filled with poison. Shane came back to secure the future of the company for his children, Stephanie’s children, the fans’ children and future generations. Shane says to his father that he doesn’t need to listen to him specifically as the WWE Universe speaks for him. Since it was Shane’s last night, he wanted to have a little fun by asking the WWE Universe who they would like to see run Raw. Vince said Stephanie has good points and Shane had success with Raw, but listens to no one but himself. Tonight, it’s about him and what he wants and what he wants blood. Vince wants to see them slit each other throats and disembody each other, or they can either work together cohesively. Vince decided they both have equal share of Monday Night Raw which means they can run it together and figure it out as they go. After Vince leaves his children in the ring together, Shane puts his hand out to shake Stephanie’s which she puts her hand is in and shakes it.
Roman Reigns (c) vs AJ Styles for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Winner: Roman Reigns
Notes: Originally, AJ won due to countout but Roman Reigns was still the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Shane came out and said that in the old era, that would be an acceptable finish but not in the new era. Shane stated that this match would restart without any countouts. During the match, AJ took a low blow which resulted in disqualification. Again, AJ Styles won but Roman Reigns is still Champion. Stephanie McMahon came out informing the WWE Universe that Shane missed something and agreed that the match would not end like this. She advised that the match will continue until there is a clear, definitive winner and there will be no disqualifications. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows took full advantage of that stipulation to help AJ Styles get a leg up in the match by attacking Roman Reigns. The Usos made it a fair fight by coming out and fighting Gallows and Anderson, allowing Roman Reigns and AJ Styles to fight one-on-one.
After the match had ended and Roman Reigns retained his title, Shane stated that AJ Styles should have his WWE World Heavyweight Championship rematch against Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules. Vince like the idea and immediately left the room, leaving him and Stephanie alone together. It appeared as if Stephanie actually didn’t agree with that decision and made it somewhat obvious to Shane.
Unfortunately, this card did not live up to my expectations. The terrifying injury Enzo Amore sustained minutes into his match completely threw me and my excitement level off. His match with Big Cass against The Vaudevillians was the match I was looking forward to the most, along Vince McMahon’s decision regarding the fate of Monday Night Raw. That decision didn’t even occur to me until seconds before he announced it and it just annoyed me. I would rate this pay-per-view 6/10 all thanks to Cesaro’s excellent performance, the Womens match and AJ Styles. I originally felt Charlotte vs Natalya was the match of the night but after watching the main event, I have to say the match of the night goes to Roman Reigns vs AJ Styles.
