WWE Extreme Rules 2016 Pay-Per-View Results

Here are the results from tonight’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view:

Dolph Ziggler vs Baron Corbin in a No Disqualification Match

Winner: Baron Corbin

The Usos vs Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson in a Tornado Tag Team match

Winner: Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson

Kalisto (c) vs Rusev for the United States Championship

Winner: Rusev

Details: Rusev slammed Kalisto on his back, landing where he was recently injured (I believe it was an injury to his rib but I’m not 100% sure).  While officials were checking on Kalisto, Rusev pulled him back into the ring to continue .  Although the referee continued to pull Rusev aside to stop him, Rusev was able to get his hands on Kalisto and lock in The Accolade.  This Accolade though was amplified, almost breaking Kalisto in half.  Kalisto had no choice but to tap out.

The New Day (c) vs The Vaudevillians for the WWE Tag Team Championship

Winner: The New Day

The Miz (c) (with Maryse) vs Kevin Owens vs Cesaro vs Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship

Winner: The Miz

Dean Ambrose vs Chris Jericho in the first ever Asylum match

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Charlotte (c) vs Natalya in a Submission match for the WWE Womens Championship

Winner: Charlotte

Details: While Natalya had Charlotte in the Sharpshooter, Rick Flair’s music kicked on.  Natalya broke the Sharpshooter and turned her attention to entrance.  The person who was dressed as Ric Flair turned out to be Dana Brooke.  She further distracted Natalya ringside which allowed Charlotte to recuperate and hit Natalya with the Figure Four, which Natalya had no choice but to tap.

Roman Reigns (c) vs AJ Styles for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Winner:

Details: Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson came out to deliver a beatdown – and Boot of Doom – to Roman Reigns.  The Usos came out minutes later to even the score.  After Roman retained his title, Seth Rollins ran out to the ring and attacked Roman.  The pay-per-view ended with Rollins holding the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the air.

I don’t know about you all, but I’m so disappointed.  I understand it was pretty much rewatching Payback with a few changes, but I was optimistic it would be better.  The only match I enjoyed from beginning to end (just not the individual who won it), which I’m deeming match of the night was the Fatal 4-way.  It was the only match that had me at the edge of my seat, screaming and cussing.  I loved it so much, along with the thumbtacks making an appearance during the Asylum match.  Let’s not forget the main event either!  Reigns (regardless of how much you may love him or hate him) and Styles pulled out all the stops.  These guys brought the fight and Roman Reigns earned the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, even with all the interference. And of course, let’s not forget the return of Seth Rollins!  I’m so happy the rumor of his return tonight was true.  I have truly missed him, along with the rest of the WWE Universe.  My overall score for this pay-per-view is 5/10.

Another match announced for Extreme Rules

When you think the card is all squared away and ready to go, WWE throws in one more match to make it complete.

Before the main took place on Thursday Night Smackdown, it was announced that The Usos would take on The Club’s Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson in a Tornado Tag Team match at Extreme Rules.  This means that all four men will be in the ring at the same time.  The only way to win is by pinfall or submission.

New Matches and Stipulations added to Extreme Rules

It looks like Extreme Rules is all set and ready to go this Sunday.  Shane and Stephanie McMahon made some last minute decisions for the pay-per-view and I must say, they complete the event.

Dean Ambrose vs Chris Jericho in WWE’s first ever Asylum match

Shane McMahon gave Ambrose the freedom to choose any match he wants against Chris Jericho at Extreme Rules.  Ambrose decided to have the first ever Asylum match where they would be enclosed in a steel cage and some of Ambrose’s favorite things like nun chucks, a straight jacket and even a potted plant to name a few were included.  There’s no climbing out of the cage or walking out of the door so this doesn’t make it an easy escape for Jericho.

Dolph Ziggler vs Baron Corbin in a No Disqualification match

This rivalry has been going on for a little over a month now.  Dolph obtained his victory against Baron during their match at Payback and Baron evened the number by winning their rematch at Monday Night Raw the following day.  Who will exceed who in their number of victories and possibly come out of this rival as the top dog?

Stipulation added to the WWE’s Womens Championship match

Shane McMahon is always coming up with great ideas and this one is no different.  Shane added another stipulation to Charlotte’s Womens Championship match against Natalya at Extreme Rules.  First, it was announced it was a submissions match, then Ric Flair was banned ringside, and now if Ric Flair even shows his face during the match, Charlotte must forfeit her title.  As Natalya said, Charlotte won the NXT Womens Championship against her at NXT and wants to wrestle that Charlotte this coming Sunday.

So what do you guys think of these additional matches and stipulation?  I think the Asylum match will be entertaining and am hoping it revives the hardcore spirit of ECW.  I want violence and blood!  It’s a new era in WWE, so I’m hoping I’ll see even a little bit of it.  Ziggler and Corbin I could care less about and the added stipulation in the womens match just ties it all up in a pretty little bow.  Needless to say, I’m ready for Sunday!

IC Triple Theat match at Extreme Rules becomes a Fatal 4-Way

The Intercontinental Championship match at Extreme Rules just got fatal.

On Monday Night Raw, Sami Zayn pleaded with The McMahons to allow him the opportunity to compete at Extreme Rules for the Intercontinental Championship.  He stated that this is a new era which is about giving the WWE Universe what they want and by the sound of the WWE Universe last week, they wanted him.  Shane and Stephanie listened and gave Zayn a chance to earn his spot in the Intercontinental Championship match.  They created a match between Sami Zayn and Intercontinental Champion The Miz and if Sami won, then the Triple Threat match between Miz, Kevin Owens and Cesaro at Extreme Rules turns into a Fatal 4-Way.

It’s no surprise that Zayn was able to solidify his place in Intercontinental Championship match at Extreme Rules.  With a string of losses the last few weeks, this win was incredibly needed.  Zayn is one step closer to possibly becoming our new Intercontinental Champion, along with Owens and Cesaro.

Matches announced for Extreme Rules 2016

Last night was the first night both Shane and Stephanie McMahon were under dual ownership of Monday Night Raw and to be quite honest, it went a lot smoother than I had anticipated.  Not only are both McMahon siblings intact but there were several great matches announced for the upcoming Extreme Rules pay-per-view.  Let’s take a look at what we are to expect come Sunday, May 22nd.

Roman Reigns vs AJ Styles in an Extreme Rules Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

There is no denying Reigns and Styles took it to the brink at Payback.  They had the same match three times until The McMahon siblings finally got it right.  This time, they learned to get it right the first time and add the stipulation that anything goes.  Objects, outside interference, fighting outside of the ring, you name it!

The Vaudevillians vs The New Day for the Tag Team Championship

Since Enzo sustained his injury during the #1 Contender match, it pretty much removed him and Big Cass from the running.  Their opponents from Sunday, The Vaudevillians, were granted the opportunity at the Tag Team Championship against The New Day at Extreme Rules.  This is a huge moment for The Vaudevillians since this will be their first Tag Team title match on the main roster.

Rusev vs Kalisto for the United States Championship

Rusev outlasted and beat several other men, including his fellow mates of The League of Nations, to solidify his spot in a US title match against Kalisto at Extreme Rules.

Natalya vs Charlotte for the WWE Womens Championship in a Submission match

Stephanie had approached Ric Flair and Charlotte backstage after their encounter with Natalya to inform them her rematch against Natalya will be held at Extreme Rules.  Not only will this be a Submission match, pinning the Figure 8 against the Sharpshooter, but Ric is banned from ringside.  The look on the father and daughter’s faces undeniably showed their feelings towards this ruling.

I’m digging the rematches and stipulations but not feeling Rusev at all.  Kalisto deserves a more athletically-equal opponent like Sami Zayn, Cesaro or Neville (if he wasn’t injured) to name a few.  All Rusev will do is stomp, grunt and crush.  He may be big, but Kalisto’s fast pace, high flying moves will definitely give him the upper hand.  How do you guys feel about the beginning of the Extreme Rules card?  Dig it or dog it?

More information on the Extreme Rules pay-per-view will be announced as it’s updated.
