Battleground 2016 Pay-Per-View Results

Here the results from tonight’s Battleground pay-per-view.

Pre-show: The Usos vs Breezango

Winner: Breezango

Sasha Banks and TBA vs Charlotte and Dana Brooke

Winner: Sasha Banks and mystery tag team partner, who was revealed to be Bayley

The New Day’s Kofi Kingston, Big E, Xavier Woods vs The Wyatt Family’s Bray Wyatt, Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman

Winner: The Wyatt Family

Rusev (c) (with Lana) vs Zack Ryder for the United States Championship

Winner: Rusev

As Rusev continued the violent beating on Zack Ryder, Mojo Rawley came out to his tag team partner’s defense.  Rusev seemed to be overwhelmed by Mojo’s overly “hyped” personality that he exited the ring.

Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens

Winner: Sami Zayn

As Sami bumps his rear end off the top rope in order to flip onto Kevin Owens who was standing ringside, his flip went wrong and he landed on the shoulder he had injured May of 2015.  Clearly, you could see Sami was in a great deal of pain but pushed through it like a true professional.

Becky Lynch vs Natalya

Winner: Natalya

The Miz (c) (with Maryse) vs Darren Young (with Bob Backlund) for the Intercontinental Championship

Winner: The Miz

The Miz tries to leave the arena when Bob Backlund gets in his way.  As Bob moves forward, The Miz moves back and Darren Young grabs Miz by the hair and puts him back into the ring.  Maryse slaps Bob Backlund ringside, falls and tells the referee and Miz that Bob hit her.  The Miz leaves the ring and makes his way straight to Bob, who removed his shirt, and The Miz pushes him.  Darren Young leaves the ring, puts The Miz in the Crossface Chickenwing and the referee orders the bell be rung.  Due to it being a draw, The Miz continues his reign as Intercontinental Champion.

John Cena, Enzo Amore and Big Cass vs The Club’s AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson

Winner: John Cena, Enzo Amore and Big Cass

Randy Orton on Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel

Randy Orton received a very welcoming return from The WWE Universe after recovering from an injury for nine months. As told on Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel, as much as he enjoyed spending time with his wife and children, he missed the feelings walking through the ramp, down the curtain, and The WWE Universe gave him.  Some jabs and jokes were made between Jericho and Orton which was followed by Jericho getting down to business to discuss Orton’s match with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. After the gentlemen watched a vignette to refresh Orton’s memory about The Beast Incarnate, Orton said it only takes one RKO to take Brock to Viperville with no enhancement needed.  Talk about a low blow!  I do have to agree with Jericho when he said Brock will make Orton pay for that comment.  We know it’s coming.  After Jericho joked about when he would be receiving a RKO outta nowhere, it did indeed happen just moments later.

Dean Ambrose (c) vs Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Guys, this was seriously one of the best pay-per-views WWE has had in months!  I loved it.  I rate it  9 out of 10 and I couldn’t even begin to choose a match of the evening; there were so many that had me entertained.  Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens as well as The Miz vs Darren Young for the Intercontinental Championship have it tied for the #1 spot.  As different as those matches were, they both had me incredibly entertained.  If you didn’t have the opportunity to watch Battleground live as it aired, be sure to catch the rerun on The WWE Network.

Also, I did not forget about the return of Randy Orton on Jericho’s Highlight Reel.  I was recording Randy’s return on my phone for my bestie since he couldn’t come over and watch it so I have to go back, rewatch it and take notes, then add it into this blog post. *UPDATED 07/25/16 at 9:28AM*

What were your thoughts on tonight’s pay-per-view and the return of “The Viper” Randy Orton?  Please let me know by leaving a comment below!  I look forward to reading them!

More matches announced for Battleground

The closer Battleground gets, the more matches are added to the card.  On the final Thursday night Smackdown aired, The WWE Universe learned of three more matches added to the upcoming Battleground pay-per-view.

Zack Ryder vs Rusev for the United States Championship

Ever since winning the Intercontinental Championship at Wrestlemania, Ryder has been on fire!  Although he lost the Intercontinental Championship to The Miz the night after Wrestlemania on RAW, he surely did not lose momentum.  Zack Ryder and The Big Show were the last men standing for Team USA against Multi-National Allegiance in an elimination match on the 4th of July edition of RAW.  His confidence undeniably carried over into Smackdown days later as he challenged Rusev for the United States Championship.  Rusev accepted his challenge as he brutally attacked Ryder after his match with Sheamus on this week’s Monday Night Raw.  I did not know for sure if the match would be at Battleground, which is why I didn’t write about it on a blog post, until it was confirmed on Thursday night’s Smackdown.  Zack is so beloved by The WWE Universe and would be the perfect United States Champion.  Will he be able to survive Rusev’s violent aggression, power through The Accolade, and become United States Champion?  We’ll find out once both men enter the ring at Battleground.

The Wyatt Family vs The New Day

The Wyatt Family has had their eyes set on The New Day ever since their welcomed return to WWE in June.  If only The New Day hadn’t interrupted Bray’s speech, they would not have a target on their backs.  On Monday Night Raw, we watched as The New Day fought The Wyatt Family on their family compound which was terrifying to witness.  Now, the trios will have neutral turf inside the squared circle at Battleground.

Charlotte and Dana Brooke vs Sasha Banks and tag team partner

Like The Wyatt Family, Sasha has had her eye on Charlotte ever since she returned to action on RAW.  Discouraging for Sasha, Charlotte has dashed Sasha’s every attempt for a title match.  Instead, the Womens Champion has put her protege Dana Brooke in The Boss’ path.  Battleground will be no different as the women are scheduled for tag team action, leaving Sasha to find a tag team partner.  Will Sasha choose Becky Lynch?  Paige?  Or maybe a NXT Superstar like Bayley or Billie Kay.  Sasha has some time to search and to think it through before the pay-per-view next Sunday.

More matches to be announced as they are made known to the public.

Match and WWE Superstar return announced for Battleground

battlegroundLast night on Raw, The WWE Universe witness the #1 Contender for the Intercontinental Championship earn his spot as well as learned of the return of one of WWE’s most beloved Superstars both taking place at Battleground.

A Battle Royal kicked off Monday Night Raw for members of the WWE locker room to eliminate each other, leaving one man standing to face The Miz at Battleground for the Intercontinental Championship.  Men one by one were eliminated until the final four which was made up of Baron Corbin, Apollo Crews, Dolph Ziggler and Darren Young were remaining.  Corbin eliminated Ziggler (to no one’s surprise) and shortly after, Corbin eliminated Crews but Crews took Corbin with him resulting in a double elimination!  This meant that Darren Young was the only one left in the ring and the #1 Contender!  His face was priceless as he was looking around the ring to see he was the last man standing.  Darren Young was greeted by his life coach; Bob Backlund – who was ringside the entire match – swept Young off his feet in celebration and ran around the ring.  Backlund was celebrating as if he won!   The WWE Universe was excited for Young, as am I, and look forward to see Young back in action after all this time.

Speaking of back in action, Randy Orton will be returning to WWE at Battleground!  Although he is not scheduled to wrestle, he will be making a special guest appearance on Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel.  I’m sure the topic of conversations will primarily be returning from injury and his fight against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.  We haven’t seen Orton since the Hall of Fame ceremony the night before Wrestlemania so I’m stoked to see him after all this time that’s passed!

This card is beginning to fill up quickly! As you already know, any additional matches that are announced for Battleground will be provided here as they are made public.

Matches announced for Battleground pay-per-view

Last night on Monday Night Raw, The WWE Universe was informed of two new matches announced for the upcoming Battleground pay-per-view.

Becky Lynch vs Natalya

This was no surprise to anyone, as their friendship had ended at the hands of Natalya at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view in June.  Since then, Natalya has bullied Becky – both physically and verbally – at every available opportunity possible.  Becky is at her boiling point and it’s about time these two resolve their differences, even if it means grappling in the squared circle.  Whether this match helps Natalya come to her senses is uncertain…hopefully it does…and they can make things right between them and move on to further conquer the Womens Division.

The Club’s AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson vs John Cena, Enzo Amore and Big Cass

The numbers and the odds will finally be even for John Cena at Battleground.  AJ Styles, with Gallows and Anderson by his side obviously, made a statement that no one ever comes out to help Cena when they beat him up.  Last night was different though, as Enzo Amore and Big Cass came out to assist Cena and even the score.  This resulted in a match with all six individuals at Battleground.  It’s about time The Club won’t be able to fight dirty, although it wouldn’t surprise me if they’ll have some trick up their sleeves that night…

More matches for Battleground will be announced as they are made public.

Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens at Battleground

This should be no surprise to you as it seems Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have had a match against each other every WWE pay-per-view, but this match is different.  This match between the two will be their last.

Ever since Kevin Owens debuted in NXT, the same night Sami Zayn won the NXT Championship, these two have been at war.  Kevin has had success in his career on Sami’s expense and there is nothing he won’t do to get what he wants.  Sami made a valid point on Monday Night Raw last night and that was the last few big matches Kevin has had he’s lost all because of him.  And the same goes for Sami.  These two cannot move forward in their careers until they bury the hatchet once and for all.  Sami requested one final match with his former best friend at Battleground to which Kevin Owens accepted.

I’m sure there are members of The WWE Universe who will be thankful when this feud ends.  I on the other hand am going to be so sad.  Their chemistry in the ring and on the mic sparring off against one another is just magnetic, always pulling you in and keeping you hypnotized until the moment they’re off the screen or out of the ring.  It really is a new era within WWE and as excited as I am to see what the WWE holds for each of these two tremendously gifted athletes, I’m sad to see this come to an end.  I’ll definitely be soaking up every minute of their final match together at Battleground, knowing we won’t ever see it again on live television.  At least we The WWE Network to relive the magic their feud has had within WWE.

More matches for WWE’s Battleground pay-per-view to be announced as they are made public.

First match announced for Battleground pay-per-view

Shane McMahon announced the first match for the upcoming Battleground pay-per-view and boy is it a good one!

After the #1 Contender match between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins came to a draw on Monday Night Raw, Shane McMahon immediately came out to rectify the situation. He didn’t want the match to end this way.  He wanted a definitive winner, so Shane announced that at Battleground it will be Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship!

This has “main event” as well as “amazing” written ALL.OVER.IT!

More matches for Battleground to be announced!
