NXT Match of the Month (August 2016)

With the weekly airings of Monday Night Raw and Smackdown along with monthly pay-per-views, we are bound to witness one match that outshines the rest.  One match that has you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, thrashing your body around in excitement, and screaming in happiness, anger or anxiety throughout the entire match.  It leaves your heart pounding and any word off the tip of your tongue that night is about that match.  That match will be featured in this blog segment titled NXT Match of the Month!

August’s NXT Match of the Month takes place at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn on Saturday, August 20th, 2016.  Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa have been vying at an opportunity to compete for the NXT Tag Team Championship.  General Manager William Regal granted their request which was to take place at this historic summer event.  That night, we witnessed The Revival’s Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson (c) take on Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Tag Team Championship!

Dash and Dawson worked cohesively as a unit throughout this match; not to say Gargano and Ciampa didn’t, but it’s as if Dash and Dawson just know what the other is thinking and they always use their experience as a tag team and tight-knit bond to their advantage.  They took turns working on Ciampa, tagging in each other frequently.  They also assisted each other by one of them focusing on their opponent in the ring while the other took care of the opposite opponent outside of the ring; there were countless times that Gargano was punched or pulled off of the apron to prevent a tag.  Aside from The Revival connecting maneuvers on their opponents, they also prevented pins from happening by interfering.  One interference being Dawson putting Dash’s foot on the rope to prevent a successful three count and a possible loss of the title.  The consistency of their teamwork resulted in retaining the NXT Tag Team Championship as Dash hit Gargano with a Chop Block to the knee followed by a Reverse Figure Four.  The pain inflicted on Gargano’s knee was (as I could only imagine to be) unbearable and Gargano had no choice but to tap out.

Winner: The Revival’s Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson

What an incredible match.  The entertainment value and the shocking moments had me digging my nails into my thighs.  It was just so much fun to watch these two tag teams go toe to toe and I hope we have another opportunity to see them go up against each other again in the future.  It looks like anyone The Revival goes up against turns into a five star match.  That says something about the two time NXT Tag Team Champions.  Keep your eye on them, they’re only getting warmed up.
