CWC Participant of the Month (August 2016)

Since The Cruiserweight Classic debuted on The WWE Network on July 13th, it has become an immediate success.  Those who may not be familiar with the cruiserweight division or independent wrestling are being introduced to a whole different world of high fliers and agility from the best talent from all over the globe.  There was no denying that The Cruiserweight Classic would be something special but these competitors have truly stolen the hearts and attention of everyone tuning in every Wednesday.  It left such an impression on me that as a blogger, I just had to dedicate a monthly blog segment in its honor aside from the weekly tournament results.  Along with the Cruiserweight Classic Match of the Month, I also bring you the Cruiserweight Classic Participant of the Month!

cedriccwcAlthough he did not advance to the second round or quarter finals of the Cruiserweight Classic, Cedric Alexander’s professional wrestling career is headed in his desired direction. With seven years of experience in the industry, he was well known in Ring of Honor prior to becoming a participant in the Cruiserweight Classic.  In the Cruiserweight Classic, Cedric successfully defeated his first opponent, Clement Petiot but unfortunately was unsuccessful at defeating his second opponent, Kota Ibushi.  It didn’t matter though, because that match gained the respect of the WWE Universe as they filled the room with “Thank you, Cedric!” and “Please sign, Cedric!” chants.  That match also gained the respect of Triple H, the creator of the Cruiserweight Classic, who showed his respect for Cedric by coming out after his match, shaking Cedric’s hand, and giving a thumbs to the fans before escorting him backstage.  Triple H only the fans’ chants that night but took them to heart as it was announced that Cedric signed a contract with WWE on August 13th.  He will be taking part in the Cruiserweight Division coming soon to Monday Night Raw.

This is without a doubt well deserved. As discussed by CWC commentators Mauro Ranallo and Daniel Bryan as well as Cedric Alexander himself, he’s had to encounter a lot of nay sayers throughout his career in professional wrestling.  Even his pastor told him he would never make it.  The best part of diligence and hard work is not only achieving the dream, but showing those that told you couldn’t do it that you can.  And Cedric did just that.  I’ve been a fan of Cedric since his days in Ring of Honor and my admiration and respect for Cedric as a professional wrestling has just grown tremendously throughout the last two months.  Like Kota, its undeniable Cedric has a bright future ahead of him in WWE.
