The new Monday Night Raw in The New Era

rawI know WWE has been saying we are in “The New Era” for what feels like the past six months or so, but I feel as if last night truly felt like “The New Era” had officially kicked off last night at Monday Night Raw.  We witnessed the debut of NXT Superstars, repackaged Superstars, a new Championship and a new Women’s Champion.  I was thrilled with Monday Night Raw last night and am so excited to write about it.  Let’s get started, shall we?!

Monday Night Raw kicked off with a new logo and a new Monday Night Raw compilation video accompanied by new music.  Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley then introduced The WWE Universe to their new roster.  They were hoping to have had the WWE Championship within their brand, but Stephanie blatantly put the blame on Roman Reigns for dropping the ball.  They decided to fix the matter by creating a brand new Championship, one that was named in dedication to the fans: The WWE Universal Championship.  Stephanie and Mick decided that there would be two Fatal 4Way matches and the winners of each Fatal 4Way would face each other in order to advance to SummerSlam and face their #1 draft pick, Seth Rollins to see who will be crowned our first ever WWE Universal Champion.  It was also announced that Charlotte will be putting her Women’s Championship on the line against “The Boss” Sasha Banks.

The first Fatal 4Way that took place this evening was Cesaro vs Rusev vs Kevin Owens vs Finn Balor which Finn Balor won (if he didn’t, Pittsburgh would have started a riot for sure). The second Fatal 4Way had Sami Zayn vs Sheamus vs Chris Jericho vs Roman Reigns which of course Roman Reigns advanced to face Finn Balor at the main event.  Thankfully for The WWE Universe, Finn Balor won and will be facing Seth Rollins at SummerSlam for The WWE Universal Championship!

Sasha Banks won The Women’s Championship from Charlotte after she made her tap out while locked in The Bank Statement. Overwhelmed with emotion, The WWE Universe chanted “You deserve it!” at our new WWE Women’s Champion. It was truly a wonderful moment to witness in the first day of this New Era on Monday Night Raw.

Aside from Finn Balor, NXT powerhouse Nia Jaxx also made her debut on Monday Night Raw. She showed Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley why they made the best decision selecting her above any other woman in NXT as she annihilated her opponent, Pittsburgh native Britt Baker. Just like NXT, I feel Nia will continue to make her mark on the main roster.

Adrian Neville made an exciting return to action after being out of action for what feels like a year, although he has made appearances occasionally on pay-per-views. He won his match against former Intercontinental Champion and former Social Outcast member, Curtis Axel.

We witnessed a repackaged Braun Strowman, with new music, new gear and new hair! Like Nia, Strowman dominated his opponent, Maryland native James Ellsworth. It certainly seems as if Stephanie and Mick will be playing off of Strowman’s size to create a “bully in the playground” type character. I hope they work it to their advantage, as a character who continues to beat up their opponents with no repercussions or paired up against someone of equal strength could get stale pretty quickly.

The New Day celebrated the official launch of their cereal, Booty-O’s which is available for purchase at FYE.  They selected a fan out of the audience to be an honorary member of The New Day for the evening by the name of “Sonny Boy”.  The party was cut short when The Club’s Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson interrupted the celebration and attacked The New Day.  Is this setting up for a Tag Team Championship match at SummerSlam?  We will have to continue watching Monday Night Raw to see if that is the case!

I thoroughly enjoyed Raw last night, with the exception of Roman Reigns getting the win over Sami Zayn. Zayn vs Balor would have been an incredible match to witness and I’m sure one day, we will. Otherwise, I couldn’t have thought of a better way to kick off “The New Era”.
