Warrior Wednesday (Second Return to WWF)

The Ultimate Warrior was a phenomenon in the WWE.  He paved the way for many others to unleash their inner warriors when it came to pursuing the dream of professional wrestling.  Just like those he inspired whether it was in or out of the ring, he also had his moments of failure, victory, defeat and conquer.  In honor of The Ultimate Warrior’s legacy, every Wednesday is Warrior Wednesday.  This week, we look back on The Ultimate Warrior’s second return to The World Wrestling Federation.

The Ultimate Warrior made his second return to The World Wrestling Federation when he successfully defeated Hunter Hearst Helmsley at Wrestlemania XII.  He then made an appearance on Monday Night Raw on April 8th, 1996 in which he stated during an interview that the “voices” from the “warriors” (Warrior’s nickname for his fans) brought him back to professional wrestling; however, his interview was interrupted by Goldust.  Goldust at the time was the current Intercontinental Champion which The Ultimate Warrior challenged Goldust for the title at In Your House 7.  The Ultimate Warrior won by countout but did not win the title.  A rematch for the Intercontinental Championship took place at Monday Night Raw on May 27th, 1996 but this resulted in a double countout, giving Vader the opportunity to enter the semi-finals.

The Ultimate Warrior defeated Jerry “The King” Lawler at King of the Ring as well as Owen Hart by disqualification on July 8th’s edition of Monday Night Raw.

The Ultimate Warrior was supposed to team up with Shawn Michaels and Ahmed Johnson to face Davey Boy Smith, Owen Hart and Vader at In Your House 9 that same month but Warrior’s contract was terminated prior to the event.  The reason being Warrior had missed several house shows due to allegedly grieve the passing of his father.  Vince McMahon did not believe Warrior as he knew Warrior had not spoken with his father in 10 years and had no relationship with him.  The Ultimate Warrior stated the real reason he missed the house shows was because Vince McMahon did not reward him a percentage from his merchandise sales.  The Ultimate Warrior was replaced by Sycho Sid in his scheduled match for In Your House 9.
