Instagram Photo of the Week (04.30.16)

This week’s Instagram Photo of the Week comes from the company itself, WWE!

On Thursday, they posted this photo announcing the debut of Eric Young during a NXT Taping.  His debut dominated Twitter and practically broke the Internet, as only a World Class Maniac could.

For those who do not know Eric Young, he is a 18 year veteran and a former Heavyweight Champion.  His interview with Cathy Kelly is available on WWE.com.

I received a Breaking News notification from the WWE app last night and when I read it, my first thought was “Who is Eric Young?”  I had never heard of him until tonight, so I asked my boyfriend and he said Eric was from TNA.  Well that made sense as to why I do not know who he is since I don’t watch TNA.  I’ve tried multiple times on several different occasions and just COULD NOT get into it.  After watching his interview with Cathy Kelly, I am super stoked he’s apart of NXT – and I haven’t even seen him wrestle yet!  And the video WWE recorded of his debut on Facebook Live shows SAMOA JOE IN THE RING HOLDING HIS CHAMPIONSHIP BELT.  Do I smell a title match?!  Oh I sure do hope so!  I know, I’m getting ahead of myself, but just let me.

NXT Superstar of the Month

Each time the camera lights go on, one star shines brighter among the rest. This individual is victorious, constantly showing themselves and the WWE Universe they are deemed worthy of air time, our time and our hearts (or hatred for our beloved heels).   Each month, this particular person will be awarded NXT Superstar of the Month and for the month of April, this title goes to…well…NXT!

The week of Wrestlemania is always a phenomenal one, but this one especially for the roster of NXT. Some of their Wrestlemania moments occurred not even on the grand stage and the NXT Universe couldn’t care less. We were just so proud of them and so thrilled we got to be a part of their monumental milestones. Here is a recount of how NXT took over Wrestlemania (see what I did there?):

  • April 1, 2016 (NXT TakeOver: Dallas):
    • The American Alphas Jason Jordan and Chad Gable defeated The Revival’s Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson for the NXT Tag Team Championship.
    • Asuka defeated Bayley to become NXT Womens Champion
    • Shinsuke Nakamura made his official NXT debut
  • April 3, 2016 (Wrestlemania):
  • Baron Corbin won the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal
  • Former NXT Superstars Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, Summer Rae, and Kalisto made their Wrestlemania debut
  • April 4, 2016 (Monday Night Raw):
  • Enzo Amore and Big Cass along with Apollo Crews made their main roster debut
  • April 7, 2016 (Thursday Night Smackdown):
  • The Vaudevillians made their main roster debut

So you can see why I could not just choose one NXT Superstar this month. NXT, as amazing and highly respect as it is as its own entity, is the starting point for these Superstars. They work hard and train hard daily to get to this point. To see their hard work payoff is not only gratifying but inspiring as well.

Warrior Wednesday: The Wonder Years

The Ultimate Warrior was a phenomena in the WWE.  He paved the way for many others to unleash their inner warriors when it came to pursuing the dream of professional wrestling.  Just like those he inspired whether it was in or out of the ring, he also had his moments of failure, victory, defeat and conquer.  In honor of The Ultimate Warrior’s legacy, every Wednesday is Warrior Wednesday.  This week, we take a look back at The Wonder Years.

James Brian Hellwig was born June 16, 1959 in Crawfordsville, Indiana.  He is the oldest of five children who was raised by his mother after his father abandoned the family when he was only 12 years old.  Hellwig was fortunate to have a father figure in his life when his mother remarried.  He attended and graduated from Veedersburg’s Fountain Central High School and attended Indiana State University for only one year.

April’s WWE Superstar of the Month

Each time the camera lights go on, one star shines brighter among the rest. Here comes the money after almost 7 years away from WWE.  He made his return in such appropriate fashion: when his father Vince McMahon was presenting his sister Stephanie McMahon with the “Vincent J. McMahon Legacy of Excellence” Award.  His reason for returning was to control Monday Night Raw which his father gave his approval, but under one condition: Shane had to defeat The Undertaker at Wrestlemania in a Hell in a Cell match.  If The Undertaker won, he would keep his career and live to see another Wrestlemania.  As we all know, The Undertaker secured his fate with the WWE by winning his match against Shane, but there’s no denying Shane put up one hell of a fight.  We all witnessed that amazing 20 foot leap off the top of the cell!  Although he lost, he’s had the opportunity to run Monday Night Raw for three consecutive weeks and for the first time in history controlled the April 21st edition of Thursday Night Smackdown.  Stephanie informed Shane and the WWE Universe that this Monday was his last week running Raw, but their father ultimately has the final say at Payback.  It is at Payback that Vince will decide between his children who will have control of Monday Night Raw.

It hasn’t even been a month since Wrestlemania and Shane has done so much in that short period of time.  We had the Tag Team Tournament take place, the debut of several NXT Superstars, the highly anticipated arrival and debut of Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows and fun, fresh matches.  I honestly feel that we have been experiencing Raw After ‘Mania the past three weeks thanks to Shane.  I personally know many people who feel this exact same way.  It was a no-brainer who I wanted to proclaim WWE Superstar of the Month after the month of professional wrestling we’ve had, and it’s all thanks to Shane O Mac.
